Starmaker's Bugsy Malone opens at The Wilde Theatre, Bracknell one week from tonight, running until Saturday 7th October. This promises to be a spectacular production in the true spirit of the original movie – in fact, our musical director played the piano in the audition scene in the film! South Hill Park’s own designers have created an atmospheric set and to complete the speakeasy ambiance a limited number of seats at cabaret tables will be available in the auditorium.
Not quite your standard New York gangster story, Bugsy Malone is unique for being set in a city populated entirely by children, where the hitmen wield splurge guns that shoot whipped cream. Set in 1929, it captures the period perfectly with dazzling dance routines, snappy dialogue and a live band, all topped off with a chaotic splurge-gun battle. It’s a fast-paced, laugh a minute show for all the family. You can find some sneak peeks from band call here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Starmakeruk/videos/?ref=page_internal
We've been bringing West End production values to youth theatre for almost 30 years and this production is no exception. Starmaker has staged Bugsy Malone before, with a now-famous name in the cast – you can watch Kate Winslet, now the company’s Patron, talking about it here: https://youtu.be/u4gb65u6I0o. Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games) is also a former Starmaker member and Bugsy cast members have recently had roles in West End shows and feature films.
Tickets are priced from £17 and there are still some good seats for all performances except the matinee, which is almost sold out. They are available from South Hill Park box office: http://www.southhillpark.org.uk/events/bugsy-malone/
